East Cape to Te Araroa
After camping near Awatere River last night I returned to Te Araroa where it's raining hard so I'm in a campground cabin to dry out.
Unlike the rain, cellphone coverage is intermittent so this will be quick.
Here's yesterday's warning of weather to come and below was dawn looking East from campsite this morning.
Horses and cattlebeasts were using the road too.
In parts, it feels like I'm walking through a painting or a movie.
The coast is a series of papa wave platforms, slippery as an eel as I discovered when I went for water. Waist deep when I lost my footing!
I read "barger off " on a fence and women working on a Covid response at Te Araroa explained, it's not a spelling mistake. There's a proposal to barge logs out to ships and people fear the kai moana they rely on will fail if a de facto port is approved
They also fear visitors. After Tuesday there will be nowhere I can camp. Gotta think.
