To Gisborne

This is not the East Cape lighthouse. It's a retired one, brought in from a headland and repositioned by the river at Wairoa, photographed from the bus window yesterday. Tension mounts...will I get to see the actual East Cape lighthouse? Will there be a padlocked gate when I get there tomorrow? How many roadblocks will spring up when Aucklanders are allowed out on 15 December?

These questions and many more were picked over at the table last night. Dinner tapas style, atmosphere tropical.

The wooden bird is a pepper grinder, classy eh.

Homegrown olives too.

The weather forecast is rather poor, it must be said.

And log trucks, yesterday I understood why people fear the Napier to Gisborne road. Maybe a truck for every couple of kilometers. Epic.
